Fly Fishing in Ireland

South West Ireland offers some of the best dry fly fishing rivers and loughs in Europe, in gloriously beautiful countryside.

Here you can fish for brown trout and salmon and target some of Ireland' biggest sea trout.

In addition to it's many wonderful gin-clear free stone and limestone rivers, Ireland's south west has an abundance of spectacular loughs which are justifiably famous for the quality and size of their trout.

The Suir

The Blackwater is Ireland’s most beautiful Salmon river and one of the most prolific in Europe. It rises in Kerry, flowing 120 kilometers west to east through Waterford to join the sea at Youghal.

Amongst the south west's best known trout rivers are the Suir, Nire and Tar. The Suir is Ireland's second longest river and world famous for its dry fly fishing for brown trout.

All these rivers have easy access and wading - mainly over gravels beds and small boulders.

Average size browns vary from 20 to 40 cm, with larger fish up 55 cm not uncommon.
