Fly fishing in Tuscany, Italy
Italy’S rivers are astonishing

Fly Fishing in Italy Our Tuscany package offers crystal clear rivers, perfect, season-long water temperature, an abundance of hatching insects, and wild trout rising from dawn until dusk.

Flowing through the heart of Tuscany, the Upper Tevere is a fly fisher’s paradise and owes its existence to the “Mosca Club Altotevere”and local government. Together they re-instated a dry river bed into a benchmark for E.U. river restoration.

Add to the above - glorious scenery, the medieval hilltop town of Sansepolcro, food to reduce even a jaded goumet to tears of joy – and you have the ingredients for a perfect fly fising holiday.

Superb Italian Brown Trout trout

The Mosca Club re-introduced 40,000 trout and 30,000 grayling into the Tevere six years ago. When you see the size they can reach - Grayling up to 3 lb, Trout up to 6 lbs - you will understand the success of the project.

It’s not just the size or number of Trout that delights the most, but also their magnificent colouration. The deep gold’s of full-to-bursting bellies and the brightest of vermillion spots adorning polished silver flanks, would have done credit to Michelangelo’s palette, had he created these piscatorial masterpieces himself.

Tuscany Grayling

An Extraordinary Feature of the Altotevere is that the water temperature remains virtually constant all season. Five miles upstream of Sansepolcro, the taii water of the Tevere is fed from the bottom level of Lake Montedoglio’s dam - the coolest water irrespective of air temperature.

Even in the height of summer (incredibly, the best time to fish) you might choose to wear long johns or a couple of pairs of socks under your waders – the water is never above 50ºF.

Only at lunchtime when you leave to sample the wonderful local cuisine are you aware the air temperature might be well into the 80’s
